Landrieu, Feinberg to Host Public Meetings in Houma, Kenner on Claims Process WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., and Ken Feinberg, Administrator of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, will host public meetings in Houma and Kenner, Louisiana, on Wednesday. Mr. Feinberg will detail the claims process that will be in place when the Gulf Coast Claims Facility takes over from BP. That transition is scheduled to take place August 23. In June, President Obama announced that Mr. Feinberg would manage the $20 billion escrow account established by BP to pay claims to Gulf Coast residents and communities who have suffered economic damages and losses as a result of the BP oil disaster. Local feedback provided at forums -- from groups such as fishermen, charter boat captains, restaurant owners, community leaders, and the interested public – have helped to inform Mr. Feinberg’s planning process and help to guide decisions on how to administer funds quickly and fairly in the short-term. These forums also help Mr. Feinberg decide how to best compensate families and businesses that will be negatively impacted in the long-term. A media availability with Mr. Feinberg will occur immediately following each of the two public meetings. Due to a scheduling conflict, Sen. Landrieu will not attend the first meeting in Houma, but will participate in both the public meeting and media availability in Kenner.
