UNITY: Helping the Homeless
http://www.unitygno.org/
The number of homeless people in New Orleans has doubled since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. UNITY of Greater New Orleans is a network of agencies that helps to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness.
Their case managers help homeless residents get off the street by placing them in temporary housing or hotels and eventually into permanent housing. Homelessness is a community wide problem, and it can only be resolved with community-wide support. Volunteers are still needed to help reduce, prevent, and end homelessness in our community. Anyone interested in volunteer work with UNITY is encouraged to call Kathleen “Catch” Patton, UNITY Coordinator of Community Involvement, at 821-4496, ext. 116.
